Box Timer

A boxing and workout interval timer that installs on a phone. Saved programs keep rounds, rest and instructions, and group sessions show who is working. I designed and built it.

Overview

Box Timer runs reusable boxing and workout programs: rounds, work and rest intervals, a get-ready countdown, bells and a warning before each round ends. Group sessions assign saved boxers to each round, and the live timer shows who is working and what to do. It is a Progressive Web App that installs from the browser, works offline and keeps the screen awake during a session.

The goal

Keep a timer accurate and readable in a gym, and make repeated sessions, including partner and group drills, quick to set up.

What I built

I built a React PWA whose timer engine schedules bells with the Web Audio API on exact second boundaries. Programs, settings and the boxer roster are stored on the device, and a wake lock keeps the screen on while a session runs.

Delivered

  • Saved programs with per-round work, rest and instructions
  • Group and pair training with a saved boxer roster
  • Live timer with round tiles, bells and 30-second warnings
  • Installable offline app with a screen wake lock

Install it like a native app

This is a Progressive Web App. Add it to your phone's home screen and it opens full screen like a native app, without an app store, and keeps working offline.

  • iPhone and iPad: open the site in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
  • Android: open the site in Chrome, open the menu and tap Install app or Add to Home screen.
